Embodiment, Relationship and Belonging: Sensory experience as a pathway into deeper connection with herbs; herbalism as a pathway into deeper embodiment
We hear about the benefits of mindfulness all the time. But what about body-fullness, or body-presence? What about attention to our sensory experiences, and to the information we receive from within our own bodies? This class will investigate the ways embodiment, that is, our experiential existence as thinking, feeling bodies, can lead to greater self knowledge, as well as enhance our ability to connect out with others, including plants. Books and scientific research and data are wonderful resources within the practice of herbalism, and there is also another crucial aspect of learning from and working with plants: personal, experiential relationship. Connecting with herbs on an individual level can in turn deepen our experience of our own bodies’ wisdom. This class will provide tips, tools and exercises for connecting in with our own embodiment and outward with the plants, with the aim of bringing us into deeper relationship with the green and more-than-human ecology around us.
